Hims review

Written by Elena Voss, Metabolic Health Editor

Elena Voss is a mother writing for mothers, not a treating clinician, and holds no medical license. Prices and terms come from the company's own published pages. This is background reading, not medical advice.

Brand-name GLP-1s behind a required membership: pills from $149 and Zepbound from $299, plus $149 a month for the membership, so the real month is about double the number on the card. Hims is the company's men's storefront; a mother signing up herself uses Hers, the women's brand of the same company. An FDA warning letter from September 2025 concerns how it marketed the compounded semaglutide it used to sell.

How we scored Hims

Every factor comes from Hims's own published pricing, disclosures and oversight, and the six combine into the 60/100 Metabolic-Fit Score on our weighted six-factor framework. Commissions don't change a provider's score.

Postpartum & breastfeeding guidance48/100 · Weak

No postpartum or breastfeeding framing — a generic weight program.

PCOS & hormonal fit45/100 · Weak

Thin on the hormonal picture that drives many mothers' weight.

Clinical oversight & labs70/100 · Weak

Oversight and lab support fall short of the best on our list — the review below says exactly where.

True monthly cost56/100 · Weak

Cost is unpredictable or sits at the premium end.

Ongoing support78/100 · Fair

Standard support — enough to stay on track, not high-touch.

Cancellation fairness70/100 · Weak

Exit terms are the weak point: lock-in, notice periods, or a cancellation you have to chase.

How we checked this review

Brand-name GLP-1s only now: the Wegovy pill and pen, Zepbound, Ozempic and Foundayo. Every medication price needs a $149 monthly membership on top, so the cheapest standing month is about $298 and a Zepbound month about $448. Hims is the men's storefront; mothers sign up through Hers, the same company's women's brand. An FDA warning letter from September 2025 concerns its earlier compounded marketing.

What we like

  • Brand-name medication only, including three pill options for anyone avoiding needles
  • Every medication starting price is printed on the page before any intake
  • 24/7 messaging with licensed providers, dose changes and side-effect support in the membership
  • Medication cost is FSA/HSA eligible

The caveats

  • The listed prices are medication only; a required $149 monthly membership ($39 the first month) roughly doubles the real cost
  • FDA warning letter 716567, dated September 9, 2025, to Hims & Hers Health, Inc. dba Hims, over calling its compounded semaglutide the 'same active ingredient' as Ozempic and Wegovy
  • A men's storefront with no postpartum, breastfeeding or PCOS guidance; women are sent to Hers
  • Not available in all 50 states, and no list is published
  • The membership fee is not FSA/HSA eligible, and canceling it ends any active medication plan

Hims is the men's door to a company mothers already know

Hims and Hers are two storefronts of one company, Hims & Hers Health. Hims markets its weight program to men, and its own footer sends women to Hers. So if you are reading this for yourself, the review you want is our Hers review. If you are reading it because your partner is weighing Hims while you weigh your own options, this page is for the household budget, because the way Hims prices a GLP-1 is easy to misread.

The price on the card is the medication only

Every GLP-1 on the Hims weight page carries the same small line: membership required. The footnote spells it out. The listed price covers the medication, if prescribed. The membership is billed separately: $39 the first month, then $149 a month, and medication is not available without it. Put the two together and the month you will actually pay looks like this:

  • Wegovy pill, Ozempic pill or Foundayo pill: from $149, about $298 with the membership
  • Wegovy pen or Ozempic pen: from $199, about $348 with the membership
  • Zepbound vial or KwikPen: from $299, about $448 with the membership
  • Zepbound or Mounjaro pen: $1,899, about $2,048 with the membership

Those are starting figures. Hims says pricing may vary by dosage, so a maintenance dose can cost more than the first one. The medication fee is FSA and HSA eligible; the membership fee is not. For a family already stretching an HSA across pediatrician visits, that split matters.

What the membership buys

The membership is where the care sits: 24/7 messaging with licensed providers, dose changes through the app, side-effect support, in-app weight tracking, an opt-in smart scale and a members' community. Whether a video visit is required depends on your state. It is a polished, app-first setup. What it is not is a women's-health practice. There is no postpartum, breastfeeding or PCOS guidance on the Hims weight pages, which is expected for a men's storefront and is the reason a mother should start at Hers or a program built around women.

The FDA letter

On September 9, 2025, the FDA sent warning letter 716567 to Hims & Hers Health, Inc. dba Hims about how its website marketed compounded semaglutide. The agency objected to calling it the "same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy" and to "clinically proven ingredients", claims it treated as false or misleading for a drug the FDA has not approved. A matching letter went to the Hers storefront. The weight page today lists brand-name medication only, but the letter belongs on the record of the company you would be paying.

Before anyone signs up

Three things are worth checking. Hims says GLP-1s are not yet available in all 50 states and publishes no list, so confirm the state first. Canceling the membership also cancels any active medication plan, so plan the timing of a stop. And pills are not a breastfeeding-friendly shortcut: the labels for GLP-1 pills say breastfeeding is not recommended, which matters if a household is sharing notes. Our comparison of the Wegovy pill and the injection covers the trade-offs.

The bottom line

Hims sells real brand-name medication through a slick app, at a true monthly cost about double the number on the card. For a mother's own treatment, the women's door is Hers. If you are considering compounded care instead of a brand prescription, CoreAge Rx, a featured partner, is one option to investigate. Obtain its current prescribed-plan total and compare the actual formulation and care arrangement; a different starting advertisement alone cannot establish lower ongoing cost.

The bottom line for mothers

Best for: A household where the partner wants a mainstream, app-first brand-name program and is fine budgeting for a membership on top of the medication; mothers themselves should start at Hers.

It describes one-time purchases without a required subscription. Main navigation still shows semaglutide from $99; confirm your prescription quantity and total, and read the refund limits before paying.

Hims, answered

What does Hims cost each month for a GLP-1?
Two charges. The medication starts at $149 a month for the Wegovy pill, Ozempic pill or Foundayo pill, $199 for a Wegovy or Ozempic pen and $299 for a Zepbound vial or KwikPen. On top of that, a membership is required: $39 the first month, then $149 a month. So a standing month runs about $298 for a pill and $448 for Zepbound. Hims says prices can vary by dose.
Can a woman sign up through Hims?
Hims is the company's men's storefront. Women go through Hers, the same company's women's brand, which runs the same membership model. Read our Hers review if you are signing up yourself, and treat the two as one company rather than two options.
What is the FDA warning letter about?
In September 2025 the FDA wrote to Hims & Hers Health, Inc. dba Hims about its website calling compounded semaglutide the 'same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy' and 'clinically proven'. The FDA treated those claims as false or misleading for an unapproved compounded drug. Hims' weight-loss page now lists brand-name medication only.
Can I use HSA or FSA money?
For the medication, yes. The membership fee is not HSA or FSA eligible, according to Hims' own FAQ, and an HSA card can't be stored as the payment method; you pay by card and submit for reimbursement.
What happens if I cancel?
You can cancel any time, but canceling the membership also cancels any active medication plan and your access to care. You can stop the medication plan alone without ending the membership.

Pricing, states and verification reflect Hims's public disclosures at last review; the Metabolic-Fit Score is our editorial judgment per the published methodology. This is background reading, not medical advice — GLP-1 medications are not established as safe in pregnancy or breastfeeding. See our medical disclaimer and how we're funded.
